So I've decided that since I don't really have a life as of now... I am starting a new series on the blog. It's called Piper's Pick and its exactly what it sounds like. My Picks. When I see a movie or tv show that I like or think is interesting or amazing, I will post about it. I'll give it a rating and a summary much better than the one they most likely offer on Wikipedia or IMDB. This is just to put hints out there of what you should maybe watch next.... I know that this series may not last forever but hey... for now I think its a good idea.

Feel Good Movie: She's All ThatSince it is summer and I haven't started my summer job yet... I have been hardcore netflixing.
Today I was feeling very romancy... I wanted something to rip out my heart but at the same time make me "awwww" every once and a while. That is when I remembered this beautiful movie. I have seen it sooo many times but it never gets old. Title: She's All That Released: 1999 (Holy shit... I was 3 years only) Genre: Comedy and Romance (my favorite two things) Available on Netflix: HELL YES Summary: This super attractive guy makes a bet that we can turn this "nerdy" girl (who is supposed to be unattractive but is actually kinda pretty) into the prom queen. My Rating: 10/10 This movie is one you need to watch or even rewatch when you are feeling like you need some lovin or suffering from the lonely blues. Let's get real... Hot guy falls in love with nerdy girl... You cannot go wrong with that. I fall in love all over when I watch this movie. -Xoxo Piper Burger HeavenMy mom and I took a trip to the big town near where we live and shopped. When looking for something to eat... one word came to mind: burger. We were starving for that greasy burger and fries taste. And then we saw it. The cutest diner look restaurant: Five Guys. The menu is simply and easy to order.
1. Choose Hamburger or Cheeseburger 2. Pick your toppings... all are free. 3. I REPEAT ALL TOPPINGS ARE FREE AND YOU CAN GET AS MANY AS YOU WANT! 4. Don't forget fries and drinks. That is it. Its that simple and yet crazy amazing. While you're waiting for your order to be called, enjoy some free peanuts. That's right. Shelled peanuts you crack yourself. Mmmm. Not to mention the soda machine is one that has hundreds of flavors. Choose the soda and add the flavorings. I seriously cannot describe the deliciousness of the burger I had. It was seriously the best burger I have ever had. I normally can't eat an entire burger but I did at Five Guys. There are restaurants in 47 states and Canada. There is bound to be one near you or if you go to a bigger city... find one. These burgers are something you have to try -Xoxo Piper WE NEED TO CATCH UP!So, I could go on and on apologizing for not blogging... as could the other girls... but I'm not going to. Summer! More like working to make money to survive college and taking more college classes in short amounts of time in order to graduate on time... I'm going to try to keep blogging over the summer... I know I can't make any promises but hey I can say I'll try... Plus now that Freshman Year is over... I have a lot of advice for the first year of college... XOXO Piper Hey guys, Piper here. So wow... It's been a while, eh? I know there is no excuse for why we haven't posted, but let me just bring into perspective what the end of a semester is like: FinalsThe infamous finals week comes out of nowhere. Yes, we all know what it is and we are all expecting it. Yet, you don't believe that it will come so quickly. Studying... Finding times to sleep... Remembering to eat. It's a lot to handle all packed into one week plus the few weeks before. This was my first real semester of finals. I've taken college classes before through my high school but this was not at all the same. While in high school I would have 1 or 2 college finals. This past month, I took over 4 finals. Lord only knows how I made it though. Winter BreakAlthough I have done nothing but watch Netflix and sleep all break, sadly this blog was not first on my check list of things to do. I am still recovering from finals. Winter break sounds like this wonderful vacation time, when its really just finding sanity from a semester of college. Personal ShitThe entire last part of the semester , if you have been following this blog, you would know I took a chance with Blake. Yea, not going into details but that took up a lot of time It was practically the dark ages, forgetting homework, dealing with Blake, almost loosing some friends. I never want o go back to that.
So this was my attempt at an apology for not posting in ages. I am not making any promises, but I will attempt to keep on posting at some points. I love you guys. -Xoxo Piper Human CalculatorSit down bitches, I am about to tell you a story. Once upon a time there was a girl named Piper, who went to math class every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Her professor was amazing and only taught the basics. On the first day of school Piper was stuck next to a boy named Kenton. He was annoying from the beginning. But then it became worse.
It started off with him whispering the answer to himself. Then it turned into him DOING ALL THE MATH IN HIS HEAD IN LIKE TWO SECONDS AND THEN SHOUTING IT OUT LOUD! I am sorry... but THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION. The professor will ask what is 186+395-3887+28098 x 7576 is... TWO SECONDS LATER! Kenton being a little bitch YELLS 212,867,142!!!!!. BITCH HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW THAT! WHERE ARE YOU HIDING THAT CALCULATOR! God it pisses me the fuck off. Damn fuckers. Stfu Kenton. I'm done ranting... -Xoxo Piper ADDAttention Deficit Disorder is a really big deal in college. In high school, it would be okay if you didn't take your medication every few days because your teacher's would understand. In college, YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR MEDICATION! Professors will not give a shit if you took your medication or not, you will still have to do all the work. If you don't have ADD, you don't understand how much the medication effects the mind of an ADD person. My medication takes about an hour to fully kick in, so it is my responsibility to take it at least an hour before my first class. When it comes ADD, it is important to find way to keep yourself focused. For me, having dyslexia and ADD, my worst nightmare is reading textbooks. I have found that listening to movie soundtracks (like film scores that have no words) help me when trying to focus. Listening to popular songs that I know make me start to sing, then I think about the song, then I think about the artist, then I think about what I was doing the first time I heard the song, then I think about how hungry I am, then I think about where my cheeseballs are, and by then I have completely lost track of what I was reading. Listening to soundtracks drowns out background noise and also doesn't have me distracted. I get so distracted by the smallest things. ADD has a way of getting me way to happy over literally nothing. I have learned that in college, it is not the best idea to be super excited and over the top all the time. People who hardly know me, get super annoyed because I am just so energetic. I try to keep a lot of my energy and peppiness inside when I am around other people because most college students don't like it when someone is laughing and screaming super loud. So in college, try to contain everything a little bit... ADD can make you go crazy but is doable. In college classes are usually arrange where you have the same class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 50 minutes and then on Tuesday and Thursdays a class lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Having ADD means that your brain is other places a lot of the time. Sitting in a class for an hour and 15 minutes... is too much. I am so distracted half way in. So my tip for you ADD people, plan for all your harder classes to be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This means you have the class for shorter time, so you can be more focus knowing it will be over soon, and also you have the class 3 times a weeks, so its repetitive and will give you information more often in small doses. By the end of the night, my medication is starting to wear off and I get like a second wind. I am ready to do anything and everything all over. But this is college and I am living with a roommate. I have to realize Ellie is trying to sleep so I need to be polite and shut the fuck up so that she can attempt to sleep. At night I will lie in bed with her and just let my mind run and the most random shit will come out of my mouth. So to survive with ADD in college, you will have to remember other do not have the burst of energy from the lack of medication at night. They actually get tired and want to sleep. BIGGEST TIP OF COLLEGE FOR ADD PEOPLE: People pay a lot for ADD medication. Don't sell your medication. You need it more than the other people. Also don't trust everyone. People might take your medication for their benefit, so keep it hidden. BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR MEDICATION -Xoxo Piper
GiftsIn a relationship, gifts are a lot of pressure. What will the other person think? What if their gift is better than the one you got? Calm down. As long as you put thought into it, the other person will love it. It is not about how much money you can spend, its the thought you put into picking it out. I'm here to give some tips for buying the perfect gift.
Necklace: For girls, when a guy gives her a necklace, it become her favorite piece of jewelry. The boy has to put thought into what the necklace is, but it almost always makes the girl happy. She will wear it and proudly show it to everyone. It helps show possession, and that he claims her. Personal Item: Girls love when guys give them their stuff. Shirts, hoodies, bracelets, etc. Anything that is his, she will love. Literally, giving a girl a personal item costs nothing and makes her happier than most gifts will. Special Date: If you don't want to buy her an object. make a memory. Plan a special date that is memorable. Go-karting, roller-blading, a picnic, or even just a movie night. The best gifts are memory that you can keep in your mind. Its not only a gift for the other person, but also a gift for yourself to remember and to keep. Letter: Write a special letter that only she can read. This is nice because when she is feeling sad, or hasnt see you in a while, she can pull it out and read it. Put inside jokes in so that she can laugh. Explain your feelings so that she can smile. Remind her of your memories so that she can relive those moments. ANYTHING WILL BE FINE! Just put thought into the gift and she or even he would love it. Don't stress, she will love anything -Xoxo Piper Dealing with DyslexiaMany of you guys don't know this, but I, Piper, have dyslexia. I was diagnosed in the 2nd grade and I have been struggling with it ever since. I will sit in class and have no idea what is on the board or I try to read the textbook and none of it makes sense. Having dyslexia is hard, but its manageable. If you don't have dyslexia, hopefully this post wil help you understand more of how it is for a person with dyslexia and the different types a person can have. Spelling is extremely hard for someone with dyslexia. I have to use spell check every other word. Dyslexics have to sound words out because the letters don't have order when in their head. If you want me to write down a large word, you need to spell it out a letter at a time because when someone tries to spell something out to me, all the letters mix up. Say T-A-L-K to me and I have to sit and think for a while to figure out what you said. Sometimes, I sound out a word but it is so wrong spell check can't even fix it. 1 in 10 people have dyslexia Dyslexics are not dumb. In fact a lot of people with dyslexia score higher on IQ tests than people with no disability. Someone with dyslexia will have trouble with spelling, reading, and focusing but they are typically above average in out-of-the-box thinking and mathematics. They have higher spikes in areas while other areas fall. Just Some of the Different TypesThe reason dyslexia is so hard to diagnose is because it is different for everyone else. Some have letter reversal, others have moving pages, word connection, all different types of dyslexia. Letter ReversalThis is called letter reversal. It is when the person's mind can't distinguish between the different types of letters that look similar. This makes is really hard for someone to read because the words don't look like words. You have to translate it in your mind. When I am writing something, I occasionally switch my "b" and "d" when I write too quickly becuase the letters don't have order in my mind. Luckily I was never diagnosed with letter reversal although this is one of the most common types of dyslexia. FadeDyslexic's who see this, have a type called fade. Their brain doesn't see all of the text on a page and they are normally left with holes in the text. This makes it hard for someone to understand the topic because a lot of the letters are missing. RiversRivers. That is what this type of dyslexia is called because the lines don't flow. Text in newspapers or books that are justified, dyslexics have trouble with the spacing. Someone with dyslexia is distracted by the spaces and has trouble comprehending what the passage is trying say. At each space, a dyslexic will assume that is the end of a thought and end the thought process there. 3-DimensionalThis looks like an optical illusion right? This is actually how some dyslexics view a page. A piece of paper won't seem flat. It will seem 3-dimensional. It don't happen with street signs or things like that, but it happens along with textbooks and anything that is just font and paper. Black and white have an effect on dyslexics because the pages are so bland and have no weight to the letters. WaveThis type of dyslexia is called Wave. Imagine these lines moving up and down. I can't describe how hard it is to try to read when the lines seem to always move. For me, the lines don't move this much is such large waves, but they seem to move slightly. Like I am starring at the page and it is sliding back and forth. Most people assume the problem is with the letters and words, but sometimes, dyslexia effect how someone looks at the page. Movement is a common type of dyslexia but for every dyslexic, the movement is different. Word-ConnectionWhat's probably confusing for you guys is that there seems to be nothing wrong with this text. To a normal reader, it is just a passage from Harry Potter, but to a dyslexic like me, it is a extremely difficult reading. This is the hardest dyslexia to diagnosed because it is the hardest to explain. I will attempt to explain what is wrong with it but it is difficult. To me, I will begin to read this passage but each word is different. It seems like there isn't sentences. By the time I get to the end of one sentence, I forget what is at the beginning. I will read "harry pushed" I picture Harry Potter pushing something .. "his cart" I picture a cart ... "after them" I picture someone behind someone else. It doesn't flow well. Everything is separated. This is why when it comes to reading a college textbook, I struggle because the passages don't make sense and I don't learn anything from it. Try it for YourselfThis gif shows many different types of dyslexia. As you see, its not just letter reversal like most people assume. Letters vanish, words change order, letters move off of the line, and letters are changed to other. This will give you a headache if you try to read all of it... this is how I feel constantly. If you know me, I get frustrated after reading for too long, because it gives me a headache. College won't be easy if you are dyslexic, but speaking from experience, it is do-able. See if you can get the textbook on audio, or have a friend read for you. Make sure to pay attention in class so that the professor can tell you what you need to know and you won't have to rely so much on reading the textbook. You can survive.
